Eligibility and Application Process

Teams of three or more currently enrolled BSc Nursing students will be eligible to apply for the grant. Students enrolled in NSE 424, Clinical Placement Research, are encouraged to apply.

Interested research teams should submit a 2-3 page research proposal that details:

Research teams must submit proposals that are based on relevant public health issues affecting the community. The quality of the study design and plan is more important than a large scope. Emphasis will be placed on detailed dissemination plans where findings are shared with the population under study.

Selection Process

The successful research team will be selected based on three criteria:

  1. Relevance and feasibility of the research proposal
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of research techniques
  3. Proven ability to work well as a team

If multiple applications are matched on the above criteria, the grant will be awarded to the team with the highest mean grade of the applicants.

Expectations of the Successful Research Team

The successful team will be notified of their award in April of 2009. Successful applicants must commit to using the awarded funds solely to undertake activities related to the research project. Teams will be required to carry out the research project between March and June 2009. A final report will be due at the end of the semester.

The final report must detail:

A copy of the research report should also be submitted. The research team will be encouraged to publish their findings in an international journal at the end of the research process, and support for this process will be offered by the trustees of the Foundation.

Deadlines

Applications should be submitted to Mrs. Gwen Tross no later than 5:00pm on Thursday March 12, 2009. Late applications will not be considered.
